Preble Township Board Meeting Highlights
The following topics were discussed at the regular meeting of the board of supervisors held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, beginning at 7:00PM. Official minutes of this board meeting have not yet been approved.
Township officers attending the meeting were Brad Kelly, Neil Halverson, Steve Vrieze, Chuck Olson and David Larson. Township resident Paul Olson attended the meeting. Township road engineer Butch Obieglo attended the meeting.
Brad Kelly, township president, called the meeting to order and led the discussion.
Chuck Olson reported that the township checking account balance at Rushford State Bank was $86,812.51 as of January 31, 2015, after the payment of all January bills. Olson reported that $8,713.25 was expended by the township during January. Olson also reported that $358.68 in revenue was received by the township during January.
The township board reviewed bills received by David Larson since the January meeting. The total amount of outstanding bills, excluding current wages, was $1,763.82. All outstanding bills were approved for payment.
Butch Obieglo reported that all roads have been recently plowed where required. Recent temperature increases have melted almost all existing snow base.
Year 2015 Budget Preparation
The township board reviewed the year 2014 financial statement which shows that Preble Township received a total of $281,695.91 in revenue during the year, and spent a total of $220,556.47. Of the total revenue received, $142,317.74 represented disaster recovery funding which enabled the township to complete repairs on roads damaged during the year 2013 flood event. The township board continued discussion of the proposed year 2015 budget from the January meeting. Following discussion, the township board approved the year 2015 budget which provides for total forecast revenue of $132,923.55 and anticipated expenses of $165,460.60.
Year 2016 Property Tax Levy
The township board discussed several options for recommending a property tax levy to township residents at the March town meeting. The township board approved a recommendation of proposing a total tax levy of $103,000 for year 2016.
Vitse Bridge Replacement
During January, Brad Kelly spoke with the county highway engineer who stated that his staff is currently designing the bridge that would replace the Vitse bridge. After the designing work is completed, the county will then bid the construction project which should begin this summer.
Brad Kelly proposed that the township continue the gopher bounty during 2015 at a rate of $2.00 per gopher. The township board approved this recommendation.
